have you ever noticed how many things require your attention?
Exam Leave
It’s that time of year. My first NCEA exams, worth credits and my passing of NCEA Level 1, are starting in a weeks time. We’ve got a week of study (Half of this week, half of the next), but then it’s digging in hard and taking exams as best as we can. I for one feel I can probably pass these exams without too many problems. But I won’t be the best I can possibly be. Mainly because I can’t study, and have done no genuine study time so far. I plan to, I get alerted by my iPod, and I ignore it. Not good habits. Hopefully I won’t do too bad because of it.
I can say though that the Exams have a lot to give for me. Because of the situation I’m in, the results of my French and English exams amongst others are quite big. If I get good grades in them, ie Merit or Excellence, I’m getting a metaphorical gold star on my end-of-year report. If I don’t, oh well. If I do, it’s all the more incentive for employers to employ me, they’ll know I’m good.
In other news, I attended the Senior Awards Ceremony last night. There were people with trophies and certificates full of amazing achievements. I too got a certificate, which read “1st in French; Personal Excellence in Digital Technology, French, Physical Science.” Meaning, I was best in class for French, and I had improved greatly in the other three subjects, according to my teachers.
We Won The Rugby World Cup!
New Zealand, after 24 years of waiting, has won the Cup! It was amazing to watch the last 10 minutes, as New Zealand kept up an amazing defence and won against the French with a tight 8-7 win. Looks like it’ll be another 4 years to wait for another chance France!
iOS 5 & iCloud - :D
Yes, after a long wait, iOS 5 is finally out. I, being my apple fanboy self, got it on the first day, and I’m in love. Despite a few errors which lengthened the time it took to install on my iPod, the result is definitely worth it. The new Notification centre is awesome, I really hope they open up the widget API to others so they can make some amazing widgets too. iMessage is pretty cool, I’m able to text my brother or my dad from across the room, or across the globe, for free on WiFi, until I find some other people with iOS 5 to talk to. One feature that was a long time coming was WiFi sync. Now, you don’t need a cable to backup and sync, and it will automatically download apps that were purchased on one device onto the other. And to top it off, just recently Facebook have updated their app to be iPad compatible, and to give it a big facelift. It’s amazing how much more fluid it is now.
Along with iOS was iCloud. It might not be able to do everything that Google can do, but personally I find that the style of the apps are amazing. They look just like, or very similar, to the desktop and mobile applications, but built in HTML5.
I’m in love with iOS 5 and iCloud, it’s just amazing. If you’ve got an iDevice, just head to iTunes, and it’ll tell you there’s an update.
Holidays!
Finally, the end of Term 3 has come. But, it’s not such a holiday for me. Exams are right around the corner, like, really close. I only have a few days in Term 4, a matter of 7 days, then we’re off for 1-week exam leave to prepare. But, I won’t fret too much. I’ve got a holiday to enjoy!
A Little Retail Therapy And A New Cut
Yup, I got a haircut. Shocking. It’s just a trim though, nothing too outrageous! Got some new shoes too :) And some shirts for extra measure. That’s all. Oh, lest I know forget, I got Excellence on my English Making Connections! (Excellence = highest possible grade) Yay!
Fire Drill in the Rain
Title says it all. At the end of lunchtime (which I had devoted to catching up on a research assessment) off goes the fire bell. First time I was in A Block, they’ve installed a bloody annoying alarm. Rather than use the bell alone, they have a loud speaker that does the usual “wooooOOOOO, but, also says twice every ten or so seconds “Please exit the building using the closest fire exit”. To top it off, even after they’ve given the all clear, it keeps going. We had to move my class where we were doing an assessment, because it was just too noisy. Then I walked in the pouring rain after school. Fun.
Fun French Conversations
Well that was horrific. I’ve just finished of patching up a French Conversation that we need by tomorrow. It was with someone who is now back in Germany, so I had to squeeze in a few extra bits to fill in 15 seconds that I needed without adding in parts for him. It’s very audible when I switch between the school microphone and mine, but I guess it’ll have to do. Plus, something happened to the recording, parts of it were broke! Hopefully it’ll work, and I get Excellence!
